Vital Congregations/Just Communities II A workshop on the practice and principles of faith-based community organizing February 25-27, 2010 East Aurora, NY
A brochure with registration form is now on the Upstate New York Synod website for the Vital Congregations/Just Communities II, February 25-27, 2010, at Christ the King Retreat Center, East Aurora, NY.
This workshop provides instruction on the practice and principles of congregation and faith- based community organizing. There will be two tracks of training session, one for first-time attendees, and one for returning leaders who attended the first training session in Syracuse, February 2009.
Using the tools you learn, your congregation will be able to
- build new and more effective relationships within your congregation
- build new and more effective relationships beyond your congregation in your community
- get organized, trained, and empowered to act together to bring just and lasting systemic improvements to your community
This is an opportunity for your congregation to grow as a vital, life-changing center for their community, grounded in faith as the heart, strength, and motivation for this work for the common good.
As with the first event, diverse opportunities for worship and prayer will be interwoven throughout. Each of the four major training sessions will be introduced by participatory biblical and Lutheran theological presentations.
Trainers will be Rev. Susan Engh, Director, Congregation-based Organizing, for the ELCA, and Mr. Don Carlson, Executive Director, Central Illinois Organizing Project.
Several ELCA congregations in our partner synod, Central/Southern Illinois, belong to CIOP.
Preachers will be Bishop Marie Jerge, Bishop, Upstate NY Synod, at the opening worship and the Rev. Dr. David Pfrimmer, Principal Dean and teacher of faith-based community organizing at Waterloo Lutheran Seminary, Waterloo, Ontario.
The registration fee is $125 per person for program, 2 nights lodging, and 6 meals. A $25 discount is for additional attendees per congregation. Commuter rate for program and meals only is $70.
Please register by February 8. For more information, please contact the Amsterdam synod office, or the Rev. Rick Klafehn, 585.467.4166, or rklafehn@rochester.rr.com |
